Our Vision
The Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) is a leading and progressive global union with growing membership and a dynamic vision.
Established in 1951 to safeguard the interests and well-being of seafaring
officers, SMOU constantly improves the social and welfare of our members and
their families.
SMOU Seafarers’ Medical Scheme (SMS) – Only Available to our SMOU Filipino
Members
The SMOU SMS is an exclusive collaboration with SMOU Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) partners. This is a specially designed healthcare scheme that provides general medical protection to the dependents of our seafaring officers. Hence, it gives seafaring officers a peace of mind as they sail onboard ships.
Criteria of eligibility
Members must be active Filipino officers serving onboard vessels covered by SMOU CBA and whose shipping companies and employers are contributing to the SMOU Seafarers’ Medical Scheme.
Each member can nominate up to four (4) dependents:-
· legitimate spouse (maximum age of 62 years)
· legitimate children (maximum age of 21 years)
· natural or adopted parents (maximum age of 62 years)
· legitimate siblings (maximum age of 62 years)
Details of Scheme
SMOU offers the medical benefits through Transnational Medical And Diagnostic Center Inc, which currently has two clinics in The Philippines. The clinics are located at:-
1. Transnational Medical & Diagnostic Center, Inc
551 Cabildo St., Casa Marinero II, Intramuros, Manila
Clinic operating hours (Monday to Friday) : 8.30 am to 5.30 pm
2. Transnational Medical & Diagnostic Center, Inc
E. Lopez St., Jaro, Iloilo City
Clinic operating hours (Monday to Friday) : 8.30 am to 5.30 pm
(Saturday ) : 9.00 am to 12.00 noon
The approved dependents will be offered quality medical services. The services include consultation and/or tests that had been approved by SMOU. Each member is allowed up to four (4) medical visit and/or test per month (shared amongst member’s nominated dependents).
Medical Benefits include:
· Medical Consultation
· Complete Blood Count
· Chest X-ray
· Routine Urinalysis
· Routine Fecalysis and/or
· ECG
For identification purposes, members’ approved dependents are required to produce the Approval Advice (via e-mail from SMOU) at the point of their medical consultation.
